Abstract

The Effect of Green Tea Polyphenol with the Ability of Phagocytosis Background : Camellia sinensis, known as green tea is one of the traditional drinking which has special quality in medical scope. The prominent key from the special quality of green tea is the bioactive component that is polyphenol. A research reported that there was correlation between the consumption of green tea polyphenol with increasing of phagocytosis ability in the mice which was given green tea. Objective : To prove that there is an effect of green tea polyphenol on the ability of phagocytosis. Method : The research is a quasi experimental pretest-postest design. Sample consisted of 16 health individuals who agreed to participate in this research which the health individuals phagocytosis ability before treatmen would be examined, then they would gave capsule that consist of polyphenol green tea 350mg, drink it twice a day for 4 weeks. In the end of 4th weeks, the phagocytosis ability would be examined again, and then to pair examination results between before and after treatment and to give the correlation between phagocytosis ability after treatment. Result : The experiment showed that there is increasing of phagocytosis ability which statistically significant (p<0,05) after treatment of polyphenol green tea compared to that before treatment. Conclusion : The giving of green tea polyphenol has significantly differences in increasing of phagocytosis ability. Keyword : Green tea polyphenol and phagocytosis ability. The Effect of Green Tea Polyphenol with the Ability of Phagocytosis Latar Belakang: Camellia sinensis, lebih dikenal dengan teh hijau merupakan salah satu minuman tradisional yang memiliki khasiat pada bidang medik. Kunci utama dari khasiat teh hijau terletak pada komponen aktifnya yaitu polifenol. Pada penelitian terdahulu dilaporkan bahwa ada hubungan antara konsumsi teh hijau dengan meningkatnya kemampuan fagositosis pada mencit yang diberi teh hijau. Tujuan : Membuktikan adanya pengaruh polifenol teh hijau terhadap kemampuan fagositosis. Metoda : Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan quasi experimental pre and postest design. Sampel terdiri dari 16 individu sehat yang menyatakan setuju untuk berpartisipasi dalam penelitian di mana individu sehat tersebut selanjutnya akan diperiksa kemampuan fagositosis, lalu akan diberikan kapsul polifenol teh hijau 350 mg, diminum 2 kali sehari selama 4 minggu. Pada akhir minggu ke 4 akan dilakukan pengukuran kembali kemampuan fagositosis. Hasil: Penelitian menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan kemampuan fagositosis yang bermakna secara statistik (p  0,05) setelah pemberian polifenol teh hijau dibandingkan sebelum mendapatkan perlakuan. Kesimpulan : Pemberian polifenol teh hijau dapat meningkatkan kemampuan fagositosis secara bermakna. Kata kunci: Polifenol teh hijau, kemampuan fagositosis.
