Abstract
Resources calculations are the most vital step in exploration. It is started from hypothetical resources to mineable resources calculation which is the final stage of the exploration phase. Results of this calculation are used to study the feasibility of the planned mining activities. On this research, the writer took data of coal from seam X, Wahau Formation, concession of PT. Bumi Murau Coal, Kutai Timur District, East Borneo Province, which form folding structure consist of anticline in west and syncline in east. Based on this geological condition, coal in this region tends to continue because it is not disturbed by faulting structure. Purposes of this research are to determine the thickness of seam X, distribution pattern of seam X, and potential resources. The research method consists of survey method, descriptive method, and analytical method. Survey method is performed to determine location of data acquisition. Descriptive method is performed by identified characteristics of coal in seam X from core drill data. Analytical method is quantitatively, it is calculate potential coal resources in this field. Volume calculation is using 3 section methods, with prismoida formula. Structure contour map is used here to know width of each section using software surfer 8 and correl draw x-3. Based on analytical method, the average thickness of seam X is 19.9 m. Core condition characteristically it is black in color, dull, concoidal fracture, setting and cubical, solid to broken, not of all contain resin. Volume of seam X is 65,537,333.333 m3 with tonnage value 85,198,533.333 ton.
