Abstract

Estimation of Heritability, Genotypic and Phenotypic Correlations (Karnaen) 191 A research on estimation of genetic parameters on Madura Cattle has been conducted at Geger and Socah Sub District, Bangkalan District of East Java Province. Research used case study. Six bulls mated to 96 cows, in which one bull mated to 16 cows. The 96 offsprings were evaluated. The traits observed were birth weight, weaning yearling weight, body weight at 1 year, pre weaning gain and post weaning gain. The parameter estimated were heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations. The result indicated that : 1. The estimates of heritability were 0.331 ± 0.242 for birth weight; 0.272 ± 0.29 weight at one year ; and 0.231 ± 0.28 for pre weaning gain that were classified as medium. The estimates of heritability for post weaning gain and pre weaning gain were high that were 0.87 ± 0.45 and 0.551 ± 0.411 respectively. 2. Genetic correlation between birth weight and weaning weight, birth weight and pre weaning gain, and weaning weight and post weaning gain were 0.43; 0.38; and 0.43 respectively. Genetic correlationഊbetween weaning weight and weight at one year was high that was 0.59. 3. Phenotypic correlation between birth weight and weaning weight, birth weight and pre weaning gain, weaning weight and weight at one year and weaning weight and post weaning gain were medium, those are 0.40; 0.32 ; 0.31 and 0.47 respectively. Keywords : Heritability, Genetic Correlation, Phenotypic Correlation, Body Weight, Madura Cattle
