Abstract

The purposes of this research were : (1) to identify potency and constraint of ruminant livestock development based on pasture availability and labours and (2) to analyze the priority of ruminants livestock development in Musi Rawas Regency of South Sumatera. This research was carried out from August to September 2007. The calculation method used was effective capacity calculation of ruminants population improvement (Livestock Directorate General, 1998). The results of this research showed that value for effective capacity of ruminants population (KPPTR) in Musi Rawas was positive, about 265.795,560 Animal Unit. Main priority for the ruminants livestock development area in Musi Rawas Regency are Muara Kelingi, BKLU Terawas, Muara Lakitan, Muara Beliti, Karang Jaya, Rawas Ilir, Rawas Ulu, Muara Rupit, Karang Dapo, Nibung, Selangit, Ulu Rawas, Purwodadi, BTS Ulu, Tugumulyo, Megang Sakti and the last priority was Jayaloka.
