Abstract
This research report is entitled Perilaku Polisi Wanita dalam Lady Cop Karya Bryna Taubman. Lady Cop is a novel about policewomen’s life in the city of New York. The effect of profession upon their behavior while on duty and on their daily lives is portrayed nicely in that novel. The objectives of this research on Lady Cop were: to uncover the personalities of female police characters through their behaviors as well as the process and the meaning of their behavior alteration. This research was counted as library research since it discussed the psychological aspects within a literary work by means of sources gathered from libraries. This research utilized two approaches which were intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach made use of literature theories whereas the extrinsic approach made use of psychological theories. Analysis on intrinsic elements indicated that compactness is a special characteristic that makes Lady Cop easy to be understood despite the considerable amount of messages within. Police life theme could be traced from the beginning until the end of story. Character is a dominant element in the novel because every one of them is depicted in detail through conversations and actions. The life of New York citizen is presented as a realistic setting which strengthens the reader’s impression. The Plot of Lady Cop is rather complicated to follow but not boring. Analysis on psychological aspects of the novel delivered an interesting conclusion. Personality differences found on each female police characters was an initial conclusion. Those differences appeared to contain similar basic patterns. The stimulus and response principle and the connection that occurred was experienced by each character, thus resulted a similarity on human personality. Police role in society and policewomen’s existence was also a conclusion obtained from this research. Police needs support from the society and vice versa. Policewomen and society still strive to adjust themselves, an ongoing process both in reality and in Lady Cop.
