Abstract

Water quality based on plankton and benthic organism as bio-indicators in estuary river at Pekalongan city were investigated on March – April 2008. The case study of survey method was employed in this research with purpossive random sampling. There was carried out at four sampling point. Various parameters such as saprobic indexes, tropic saprobic indexes, and diversity indexes bentic organisms were observed. The research results had shown that saprobic indexes and tropic saprobic indexes of plankton between 1.20 until 1.25 and 1.33 until 1.47 respectively. Based on this criterion expressed that the quality of aquatic biology in Pekalongan’s River Estuary was β-Mesosaprobic or lightly until middly polluted. While diversity indexes of bentic organism between 0.626 – 1.574. Based on this criterion expressed that the quality of aquatic biology in Pekalongan’s River Estuary had middly until heavily polluted. Kualitas perairan berdasarkan plankton dan makrobenthos sebagai bio-indikator di Muara Sungai Pekalongan dikaji pada bulan Maret – April 2008. Metode penelitian dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus dan metode purposif random sampling terhadap 4 lokasi pengambilan sampel. Beberapa parameter yang diteliti antara lain saprobik indeks dan tropik saprobik indeks plankton, serta indeks keanekaragaman makrobenthos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan saprobik indeks dan tropik saprobik indeks plankton berkisar pada 1,20 – 1,25 dan 1,33 – 1,47. Berdasarkan kriteria ini, maka kualitas perairan secara biologis di Muara Sungai Pekalongan termasuk β- Mesosaprobik atau termasuk dalam kategori tercemar ringan sampai sedang. Sementara indeks keanekaragaman makrobenthos diantara 0,626 – 1,574. Apabila berdasarkan kriteria ini, maka kualitas biologis perairan di Muara Sungai Pekalongan termasuk tercemar ringan hingga berat.
