Abstract

Car painting workers are at high risk to suffer form lung function disorder. The preliminary study showed that 30% of car painting workers experienced lung function disorder. The aim of the research is to know the association between workers characteristics, job characteristics, the particulate respirable concentration and lung function disorder among car painting workers in Semarang. The design used is cross sectional. Ninety car painting workers were studied. The independent variables in this research are workers characteristic, job characteristic, and particulate respirable concentration. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis were performed and prevalence ratios were calculated Three variables have significant association with lung function disorder, those are : the workers seldom use fencing mask (RP = 15,694; 95% CI =4,256 - 57,869), particulate respirable concentration ≥ 3 mg/m3 (RP = 28,672; 95% CI = 2,036 - 403,679), and job period ≥ 10 years (RP = 15,743; 95% CI = 3,369 - 73,578). The analysis result also indicates if the workers found with three variable mention above therefore, the workers have chance to experience lung function disorder about 99 %. Based on finding of high workers prevalence that have lung function disorder (46,7%) therefore suggested work laborer department and health department to increase the promotif and preventif effort, in order that the savety and the health status of car painting workers will be aware.
