Abstract

More than a half of Indonesia’s area consist of ocean, seawater was a natural raw material for desalination process. Desalination to fulfill the necessity of fresh water is a way to separate salt and other minerals from seawater, or waste water in order to get fresh water. To support the desalination process, data of mixed liquid CaSO4 and NaCl precipitation rate absolutely needed. This paper examines the effect of NaCl concentration on kinetics of precipitation for CaSO4.. Batch tests under isothermal (300C) condition were carried out for NaCl concentration range between 0,5 to 1,5M of NaCl, calcium sulfate in range of 0,03 – 0,12M. Kinetics of CaSO4 precipitation was found to be strongly affected by NaCl concentration. The overall rate of precipitation is faster at higher NaCl concentration
