Abstract
Knowledge can be divided into two categories namely the knowledge itself and science, or science that studies the nature as it is (das rein) and returns to the scope of our experience. The function of knowledge is to obtain the laws or rules which can be treated in general. All changes which have general sense are called theory. Theory is developed to explain the phenomena observed based on certain rules or assumptions. In the field of economics, there are three ways in explaining abort it; verbally, graphically (visually), and mathematically. Theory has some elements: a) Some definitions which clearly decribe the variables. b) A group of assumption as the condition which the theory has been used. c) Prediction, commonly known as hypothesis. The theory of economics can be distinguished into positive, normative, and arts economics. There are some procedures in order to make knowledge into science which are called scientific method This method combines deductive and inductive way of thinking in developing the knowledge itself. Key-words: knowledge, science, theory, scientific, deductive, and inductive method.
