Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of diet consisting palm oil frond and concentrate feed block containing untreated palm kernel cake (P1), roasted palm kernel cake (P2), or soy bean meal (P3). Roasted palm kernel cake was obtained by heating the material in the oven at 160 o C for 30 minutes. Twelve Bali heifer were used as animals experimentation to evaluate 3 different diets. The heifers were randomly assigned to three treatments in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Data obtained were tested using ANOVA. Any significant variables were then tested using Least Significant Different. Variables measured were digestibility of feed dry matter, feed organic matter, feed crude protein, feed energy, average daily gain, and dry matter intake over body weight. The result showed that there were no significant different for all variables. Digestibility of feed dry matter of T1, T2, and T3 were 62.98%, 60.57%, and 60.78% respectively. In addition, digestibilities of feed organic matter of T1, T2, and T3 in respective order were 61.97%, 56.69%, and 61.83%. Digestibility of feed crude protein of T1, T2, and T3 were 72.44%, 69.83% and 71.70%, digestibility of feed energy of T1, T2, and T3 were 59.62%, 6258%, dan 61.83%. The average daily gain recorded for 12 weeks of T1, T2, and T3 were 0.13 kg/h/d, 0.10 kg/h/d, and 0.01 kg/h/d. Dry matter intake over body weight of T1, T2, and T3 were 2.46%, 2.33%, dan 2.14%. It can be concluded that diet containing treated palm kernel cake by roasting did not improve the performance of cattle. Keywords: Palm Kernel Cake, Roasted, Bali Cattle
