Abstract

Kata kunci : kapasitas ikat serat, kalsium, pH, pakan ABSTRACT This research has done from May until November 2008. The objective of this research is to examine binding capacity of agro-industry byproduct fiber with calcium (Ca) as well as the interaction of both nutrient in supplying Ca for livestock. Feeding materials which had been evaluated are wheat-bran, rice-bran, cassava waste, coconut meal, palm kernel cake and soybean meal. In determining binding capacity with Ca, we use Weber et al. (1993) procedure, while variable which measured are Ca content feeds, Ca in fiber, Ca endogenous, binding capacity of fiber sources to Ca, and Ca after re-acid washing. The data processed by Costat computer program. The results showed that Ca content in all measured variables in every feeds materials are different. The lowest Ca content is in rice bran (2.61%), while the highest one is in soybean meal (8.23%), and so is Ca which is tight with fiber. The lowest Ca endogenous content is in coconut meal (0.55%), while the highest one is in soybean meal (2.43%). The lowest binding capacity fiber sources to Ca in acid condition is in rice bran (2.12%) and the highest is in soybean meal (6.44%). While in alkali condition, the lowest is in wheat bran (1.73%) and the highest one is in palm kernel cake (6.11%). This research conclude that binding capacity of fiber sources to Ca affected by pH and each component of agro industry byproduct fiber. Keywords: fiber binding capacity, Calcium, pH, feed
