Abstract
It was a prospective study to determine is preemtive administration of systemic ketamin decreased requirements of meperidin dose for post operative analgesia. Research design was post test only control group design. Patients undergoing orthopedic procedures were randomezed into a preemtive or controlgroup. The number of patients in each group were 20 person ( n=20 ). This study were do in central operations room of Kariadi hospital in Semarang on March — October 1999. The subject of study were patients who will undergoing elective orthopedic prosedure with general anesthesia, 17 —60 years old. ASA I — U physical status there weren't contraindications to procedure and all patients in the preemtive group were given 0,25 mg/kg —1 ketamin followed by a ketamin infusion of 10 ug/kg — 1 min — 1,which will discontinued at skin etosure. Patiens in control group weren't be given ketamin. Post operatively, all patients received intramusculer (im) meperidin 1 mg kg-1 and then every VAS score is > 40. Post operative pain was assesed by measuring meperidin consumption in the first 24 hour and visual analogue scale (0-100 mm) pain scores. Student t test was used to compare inter group data for age, weight, length of surgery, VAS pain score at meperidin giving, and amount of meperidin given. Analysis by chi square test was used to compare inter group data for gender distribution. There was no significant difference of meperidin requirements between the control group and preemtive group (p> 0,05), age, weight, lenglith of surgery, and VAS pain scores at meperidin .The conclution was preemtive ketamin didn't decrease meperidin requirements Key words : Preemtive ketamin, • meperidin requirements .
