Abstract

Background. Academic achievement is influenced by endogenous (physical condition, the five senses and psychological factors) and exogenous factors (natural environment, social and instrumental). In teenagers, exogenous factors playing important role is social maturity which may be influenced by behaviour in accordance with social life demands. Information about the relationship between social maturity and academic achievement is lacking because there are only few researches studying this topic. Study Design. Analytic cross — sectional study. Setting. Junior High School 2 and 14 in the area of Semarang. Subject. The students of Junior High School chose as study sample. Analysis. The mean, SD and percentage (frequency distribution) were calculated descriptively, and visualization with box — plot. The hypothesis test was performed analytically with correlation test (Pearson's r correlation) and test of difference using Mann-Whitney and ANOVA. The Benefit of study. It can explain the relationship between social maturity and academic achievement. Result. This study involved 126 respondents studying in the second grade. The average age was 13,4 ± 0,3 years that ranged from 12 to 16 hears. The number of male students equal the number of female ones. The average social maturity score (Vineland method) was 102.89 ± 17,8. The academic achievement of 16 students (16,7 %) were categorized as low, 89 students (70,6 %) were moderate and 21 (16,7%) were included in the high category Using box-plot there was a tendency towards the higher SQ point in the category of good points. No statistically significant relationship.s were found between social maturity score and the student's average points (r = 0,056, p = 0,499). Conclusion. There was no relationship between social maturity score and the student's average points. Suggestion. Similar study have to be performed including respondents with larger variability of social maturity score student's point and sample number. Key words Social maturity, student's point. Latar Belakang. Prestasi belajar dipengaruhi oleh faktor endogen (keadaan jasmani, panca indra dan faktor psikologis) dan faktor eksogen (lingkungan alam, sosial dan instrumental). Pada remaja faktor eksogen yang berperan penting diantaranya adalah kematangan sosial yang dipengaruhi oleh perilaku sesuai dengan tuntutan sosial bermasyarakat. Informasi tentang hubungan kematangan sosial dengan prestasi belajar masih kurang didapatkan karena penelitian tentang hal tersebut masih jarang dilakukan. Rancangan penelitian. Studi cross-sectional (belah lintang) analitik. Lokasi Penelitian. Di SLTPN 2 dan SLPTN 14 di wilayah Kotamadia Semarang Subyek Penelitian. Siswa Sekolah Lanjutan Tingkat Pertama (SLTP) yang terpilih sebagai sampel penelitian. Analisis. Secara deskriptif dilakukan perhitungan mean, standard deviasi dan prosentase (distribusi frekuensi), serta visualisasi dengan box — plot. Secara analitik dilakukan uji hipotesis dengan uji hubungan (korelasi r Pearson) dan uji beda dengan Mann — Whitney dan ANOVA. Manfaat Penelitian. Dapat menjelaskan hubungan kematangan sosial dengan prestasi belajar. Hasil Penelitian. Didapatkan 126 responden yang merupakan murid kelas II. Umur rata — rata 13,4 ± 0,3 tahun dengan rentang 12 — 16 tahun. Murid laki — laki berimbang jumlahnya dengan murid perempuan. Rata — rata skor kematangan sosial (metode Vineland) adalah 102,89 ± 17,8. Prestasi belajar siswa sebanyak 16 orang (12,7%) termasuk kategori rendah, 89 orang (70,6%) termasuk kategori sedang dan 21 (16,7%) termasuk kategori tinggi. Dengan box-plot terlihat ada kecenderungan semakin besarnya nilai SQ pada kategori nilai siswa yang baik. Secara statistik temyata tak ditemukan hubungan yang signifikan antara skor kematangan sosial dengan rata — rata nilai siswa (r = 0,056, nilai p = 0,499). Kesimpulan. Tak ditemukan hubungan antara skor kematangan sosial dengan rata — rata nilai siswa. Saran. Perlu dilakukan penelitian semacam pada responden dengan variabilitas skor kematangan sosial, nilai siswa dan jumlah sampel lebih besar. Kata kunci : Kematangan sosial nilai siswa
