Abstract

Concrete is a porous material. It contains of pore that affects the compressive strength and absorbs water. The pore could be reduced by adding waterproof material. The material is mixed together with other concrete materials to form mortar. This system is called integral waterproofmg concrete. The research is aimed to study the decrement of absorption of normal quality concrete due to additional Calcium Stearate and Asphalt Emulsion. The additional material is very useful to increase the concrete quality from normal concrete to waterproof concrete. The research consists of five steps. The first step is compressive strength test only.. Whereas, the second step is tested absorption of concrete only. The third is carried out to test both compressive strength and absorption of concrete. The fourth step is absorption test of concrete, and the last step is absorption and compressive strength test of concrete (f c). Absorption test is carried out based on British Standard : part 122:1983. The results showed that the optimum of Calcium Stearate is 50 gram/liter liquid or equivalent to 15 lt/m3 of liquid This liquid produces an absorption 1.87% for the concrete f c 38.9 MPa and 1 72% for the concrete f c 49.4 MPa. The compressive strength of concrete increases about 4.9 % for the concrete f c 38.9 MPa and 1.6% for the concrete f c 49.4 MPa after waterproof additive was introduced. On the last step of the research, the optimum asphalt emulsion is obtained about 25 gram/liter of liquid. The average absorption for the concrete f c 30.2 MPa is 1.14 %, and 1.00% for the concrete f c 41.6 MPa. The compressive strength of concrete increases about 2.6% for the concrete f c 30.2 MPa and 1 8% for the concrete f c 41.5 MPa after added waterproof additive.
