Abstract

Distribution of water to customers change from time to time, and it's depend on the customers needs for water. Due to the changes of needs of water by the customers, it will cause the operational power for the pumps will changes also. Meanwhile in Sangkali water distribution unit, there are three similar water pumps but has a different characteristics. Because of the electric tariff is rather high, so to decrease the operational cost we have to look for the most optimal way to operate these three pump, that will give the minimum power needs. There are four possibilities of operating these pumps manually there are: 1. Pump I single with pump II and III paralel, 2 Pump II single with pumps II and III in paralel, 3. Pump III single with pumps I and II in paralel, 4. The best pump for single and pumps for paralel. From the four possibilities of operation, the electrical power needs are: for the first operation the electrical need are 700,314 kWh/day, for the second operation it will need 716,012 kWh/day, for the third operation it will need 677,352 kWh/day, and for the fourth operation it will need 657,210 kWh/day. At the present pumps operation system is using the first operation. Beside this four operation that mentioned above, there are one more operation that using a Hydrophore Tank The electrical need for this operation are 584,293 kWh/day. From the five operating system, we can make a conclusion that the rank of electrical needed from the smallest are: 1. Operation using Hydrophore Tank that will need 584,893 kWh/day, 2. Operation using the fourth operation that will need 657,210 kWh/day, 3. Operation using the third operation that will need 677,352 kWh/day. Due to Sangkali do not have a Hydrophore Tank, and do not want a pump operation for 24 hours, so we suggested operating the system using the third operation.
