Abstract
The purpose of this research is to test the influences of different kinds of work related aspects to improve performances in various sectors. These are the following influences: (1) influence of work involvement on a salesperson's performance, (2) influence of work involvement on work effort, (3) influence of work effort on marketing performance and (4) influence of learning orientation on a salesperson's performance. The usage of these variables, along with results from earlier researches, has provided a diversity of conclusions. For instance, Keller (1997) discovered the direct link within the influence of work involvement on work performance, whereas Brown (1996) on the contrary, disregarded that notion and asserted that the relationship was utterly insignificant. On the other hand, the usage of these variables is able to solve the arising problem within PT. INFOMEDIA, which is a decline in growth. Ironically, it is a renowned fact that Yellow Pages, a sublime product belonging to PT. INFOMEDIA, is considered to be the top and sole player, which dominates in its field. The sample of this research consisted of a hundred and sixty-eight sales personnel. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was run by an AMOS software for data analysis. The result of the analysis showed that work involvement contributes a positive influence, which is significant to work performance; the positive influence of work effort and the impact of its significance on a salesperson's performance, and the positive influence of oriented learning and its significance on a salesperson's performance. This empirical discovery indicated that in order to raise the standards of a salesperson's performance, a determining factor in the declining growth of customers within PT. INFOMEDIA, the company's management should focus on factors such as work involvement, work effort and oriented learning for their influences to improve the performance of a salesperson. Theoretical implications and suggestions for future research have been elaborated at the end of this study. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menguji pengaruh antara keterlibatan kerja terhadap kinerja tenaga penjual; keterlibatan kerja terhadap usaha kerja; usaha kerja terhadap kinerja tenaga penjualan dan orientasi pembelajaran terhadap kinerja tenaga penjual Penggunaan variabel-variabel tersebut dengan alasan basil penelitian terdahulu memberikan simpulan yang berbeda-beda, misalnya Keller (1997) menemukan hubungan langsung antara keterlibatan kerja terhadap kinerja sedangkan Brown (1996) sebaliknya, yaitu hubungan tersebut tidak signifikan. Disamping itu, penggunaan variabel-variabel tersebut dapat memecahkan permasalahan yang terjadi pada PT. INFOMEDIA, yaitu penurunan pertumbuhan padahal bisa dikatakan Yellow Pages, yang merupakan produk andalan PT. INFOMEDIA, merupakan pemain tunggal dibidang tersebut. Sampel penelitian ini adalah tenaga penjual PT. INFOMEDIA, sejumlah 168 orang. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)yang dijalankan dengan perangkat lunak AMOS, digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Basil analisis menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan teradap kinerja tenaga penjual; keterlibatan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap usaha kerja; usaha kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja tenaga penjualan dan orientasi pembelajaran berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja tenaga penjual. Temuan empiris tersebut mengidikasikan bahwa untuk meningkatkan kinerja tenaga penjual, yang merupakan penyebab terjadinya penurunan pertumbuhan pelanggan pada PT. INFOMEDIA, manajemen perusahaan seharusnya memperhatikan faktor-faktor, seperti keterlibatan kerja, usaha kerja dan orientasi pembelajaran karena faktor-faktor tersebut terbukti mempengaruhi tinggi-rendahnya kinerja tenaga penjual. Implikasi teoritis dan saran-saran bagi penelitian mendatang juga diuraikan pada bagian akhir dalam penelitian
